Jarin wanted to go out with a bang. He wanted a cookie cake and a regular cake to chop in 1/2. I found this design and they were able to change the wording to match. We were in the apartment with limited baking pans, so I wasn't able to make it myself.
One final chop after class
Eating the cookie cake.
We hope he will continue here in SC, but he has his reservations. He is only a few years away from his black belt.
I realize I'm about 3 months behind on blogging, but it's taken me a good month to find my camera cord (seriously, tis what happens when you move), so my apologies. This was Jarin's last field day as an elementary school student-May 1st, 2014
Playing knock down the cone.
I love the look on the girl's face in front of him. They were all really drenched that day, but none of them seemed to mind.
Our last Court of Honor with the Troop was held in April.
Jarin got his first two merit badges!
Justin and several others won the Ben Carter award. The Ben Carter award was an award given in memory of a Scout who passed away in the Troop years ago. He lived the spirit of Scouting. The leaders vote on who shows that spirit in their Scouting careers and they are awarded with a plaque.
Talking about Order of the Arrow
And the Troop gave our family Miss November. She is an inflatable decoy deer that has made it through several camps (including our last one in June). We had a blast with her this year, even taking her to the campfire ceremony.
This park was right around the corner from our apartment. I decided to check it out one day with Maddie. There is a nice boardwalk in which you can view alligators, although I didn't see any that day.
Then I found this great walking trail through the woods and decided to explore. I had Maddie on a short leash as I was afraid of her getting into poison ivy and spreading it around the house.
I was glad she was on a short leash as shortly after I snapped the above picture, we came up upon this snake. That shortened our walk considerably and we headed back to the car. I think it might be a water moccasin (cottonmouth). Markings are similar to the one I found a picture of online.
Photo of one I found online when I searched.
I never went back to the park. It was kind of secluded too, so I wasn't too keen on being by myself back there.
