Nature's bounty

Just a small salad I made out of Justin's garden bounty.  Lettuce, tomato, green onions and some cucumber taken from one of the dog sitting jobs (she said to pick it).  Makes for a delicious salad.

Five Miles My Way

On July 4th, Mike and Jarin rode their bikes in the "Five Miles My Way" race.  I helped Justin finish up his flag route as I felt like I was coming down with a cold.  They did great finishing up in the heat!

Robotics Merit Badge

Justin took the Robotics and Electronics Merit Badge class at a neat venue near here.  As part of his Robotics Merit Badge, he had to build a robot that could do several tasks.  He built one that looked like R2D2.  I watched it in action and I was impressed!  He's very mechanically inclined.

Happy Birthday Joel!!

On the first of July we helped Joel celebrate his birthday.  Only a couple years until the big milestone birthday, but who's counting?
Sarah made a delicious cake and we enjoyed having dinner with them and the H family.

Random snapshots

I was out walking one morning before the heat set in and came across this intricate spider web.
We spent an afternoon at our local library for the Teen program.  This dog is a competition lab retriever who is trained.  Her trainer talked about how she was trained and showed us some tricks.  This picture wound up on the library's Facebook page.
Justin started a hobby of candle making.  So far this is the only one he's made for me, but hopefully not the last.  It was a mango pineapple scent (all used up now).
It's how you know you have boys.  When you go to make your bed and find this.  Not sure what it is, but is seems to be pretty aggressive if you ask me.
Our niece Brynn spent the night with a friend, so Jarin was invited to spend some time with Weldon.  He had dinner at Benihanas and Sarah shuttled them all over town and met up with a bunch of boys from the North side of town at Chick-fil-A the next day.  He had fun!!
Maddie has been practicing her piano skills.  She hopes to be in the next piano recital.
These two cuties come to our place for Union Sunday.  They are about 3 months apart and are very good buddies.  They were both more interested in my cell phone than they were posing for this picture! Shahayla and Nelson.

HMNS Sugar Land

Houston Museum of Natural Science in Sugar Land kicked off their "Animal Secrets" display at the end of June.  As members, we were able to preview it in the evening.  They served us a full meal as well.  Being a member has it's perks!

Summer Camp-El Cima; 2012

This summer, Justin's Troop went to a Summer Camp here in Texas.  I wasn't there, but I'll attempt to narrate as much as I can.

This is the "Old Goat" patrol (all the Assistant Scout Masters and parents from the Troop who attended).
 Old Goat camp

Justin earned his kayaking merit badge

He earned his canoe merit badge as well
 and his lifesaving merit badge

They did some long hikes (a.k.a. "Death marches".)

Sorry it's sideways.  This is after he completed the mile swim.
Looks like they had a great time!

Houston Children's Museum

In mid-June, Mike and Justin went to Boy Scout summer camp.  Jarin and I ventured down to the Children's Museum as we haven't been there in ages.
He was pretending to be a reporter

 Playing waiter

 Learning to use an ATM

He loved this climbing thing when he was younger and still enjoyed climbing on it.

 Building bridges
 Playing in the water

Summer Activities

This summer has meant relaxing for us.
Justin's been enjoying some painting.
His garden has been producing like mad.  This is just a small portion of the tomatoes that I've frozen.
I've been working with Jarin to complete some of his Scout pins.  He's made a birdhouse and a tie rack out of wood.  The birdhouse turned out great, but I don't have a picture of it yet.  I'll post one when I can.
