Pioneer Day 2011

In November, the Third Grade classes had a unit on Pioneers.  The teachers dressed as Pioneers and the kids learned some new activities.
Making quilts out of construction paper.  Corn husk dolls were made too.
Making log houses out of milk cartons, frosting and pretzel sticks

 Learning to cross-stitch
 Seed spitting contest
 Stilt walking
 Sack races

Jarin's meal

I felt inspired after I read this post of Alison's.  I asked the kids if they each wanted to plan a meal and help me shop.  They did!  Jarin was first.  He chose sloppy joes with caesar's salad.  Here he was helping wash up the lettuce.  Justin's meal kind of fizzled as we are so busy shuttling kids in the evenings that it's almost impossible for us to do during the school year.  Justin does enjoy making dog cookies and human treats too.  I always enjoy any and all help in the kitchen!!

Early November random photos

Jarin's school held their annual Veteran's Day assembly
 Flag waving
Justin had to have a creative way to show the make up of a cell.  He decided on an embellished t-shirt, which he carefully hot glued together.
Jarin's Den making tool boxes.  The boy in the red is their Den chief.  He is in Justin's troop.  Jarin had a tough time turning the screw, hence the face.
 Double checking the directions

October random photos

Our meeting (plus a few; minus a few).  Mike's parents were here as well as Jill's sister Becky, so they are extras.
Carl & Inez came to see us again in October.
Grandma had fun dressed as a clown for Halloween and even went trick-or-treating with the kids.
Maddie decided an open door was all the invitation she needed to escape that evening, so Mike, dressed as a Qatari had to chase her down the street and get her.  Quite a sight!

In October the boys celebrated my birthday with a Maggie Moo's ice cream cake!
