First Backpacking trip

Justin's first backpacking trip with his Boy Scout troop included a borrowed backpack and too much bulky gear. I think he and Mike both learned some lessons on packing light on a backpacking trip. They had fun though and hiked about 8 miles total.

Pinewood Derby 2010

In January Jarin participated in his first Pinewood Derby. The Scouts are given a block of wood and with help from their parents, they cut it, paint it, put wheels on and decorate it.
After Mike cut it, he got busy sanding it.

Aeros game with Scouts

In January we attended a Houston Aero's hockey game. The kids got free tickets for selling a sheet of popcorn, so we accompanied them to the game.

The top selling pack got to to the flag ceremony before the game.
Lets play hockey!
And what is hockey without a good fight?

Sarah and Brynn were seated behind the goalie box
Joel and Jamie B. and the kids were seated down lower behind the goalie box.
The adult tricycle race at half time was hysterical!
Jarin's pack was recognized for one of the top selling packs
One of our little salesmen
Sylvia and Homero I. were there too!
Weldon was top salesman in his district, so he got to go down on the ice and pick up pucks. The whole family accompanied him. Sarah and Brynn out on the ice.

Not sure why Justin's hiking up his pants, but he is. Here are some buddies...

Birthday boy

We celebrated Jarin's birthday at Lazer Zone this year (a Laser tag venue). We just invited a few school friends and a few Scouts and it turned out to be just the right amount of kids. Best of all...we didn't have to worry about clean up!
Before we left, he opened a few gifts from family.

He loves Nerf guns!

He received a package a little later on and got this...

Thank you everyone! He had a fun birthday!

A Happy Birthday sign!

At the school carnival in November, Justin bid (at the silent auction) on a "Have your birthday on the marquee sign". Amazingly, he won and decided to give this to his brother as a birthday gift! Jarin thought it was great!

Goodbye for Jesse and Jenny B.

In January, we lost this couple out of our mtg. They moved back to California. Although their time here was short , we enjoyed getting to know them. Maybe we'll have to make a trek out to Disneyland and go see them! We had a "goodbye potluck" for Jesse and Jenny and kids. They will be missed!

Bedroom makeover

Shortly after we got our new bed, we decided to makeover our master bedroom. We bought crown moulding and borrowed a saw.
Bathroom pictures
Our master bathroom has carmel colored walls, so I needed something to match that as well as blend in. This is the wall over the garden tub.
The bed set and bedding.
We decided to go with a light blue paint to match the comforter. You can see the trey ceiling here looking kind of blank and it's hard to make out the blue paint as we went pretty light so as not to overwhelm the room.
Crown moulding is not easy to install as we soon found out!
We made a few mistakes, but we finally figured it all out.
Then there are the corners. Did you know that your walls are probably not completely flush? What looks like it should be a 45* angle is not exactly 45 degrees? Thank goodness for caulking!
The last step is the paint. I guess I haven't taken any "finished" pictures, but this gives you the idea. It does look good and improved the look of the room.
