Jarin's last swimming lesson session

Jarin did so well with his last lesson. He's finished the Red Cross Swimming program Level 4, so he's as far as he can go with the lessons unless he chooses next year to take stroke clinic or diving lessons.
His class this year was exclusively in the 12-13' depth, mostly doing laps and practicing their strokes and dives.

First Grade Park Field Trip

Jarin's "walk to the park" field trip was the same day as Justin's pool party. Fortunately, Mike was able to take the day off and chaperon the 1st grade classes.

Ladies Kayaking Day

Rosella T. did a great job of organizing a "Ladies Kayaking Day". We had a fun time kayaking in Lake Woodlands then having lunch afterwards. A fantastic day! Thanks Rosella!

5th Grade Farewell

Justin's 5th grade class had a "5th grade Farewell". It was an awards assembly to recognize all their accomplishments throughout their elementary years. Justin was recognized with a Safety Patrol award, a Science Fair medal and a Writing Wonders award. Safety Patrol for helping take down the flag and make sure kids made it to their cars/busses; Science Fair for Science Fair participation; and Writing Wonders for writing for the school newspaper. We are proud of our (soon-to-be) 6th grader! Ignore the "subtitle goes here" flag. I tried to correct it, but my computer is not letting me.

Inks Lake Campout

Mike and Justin went camping with Justin's Scout Troop in May. They spent the weekend in Inks Lake camping, caving and swimming. This is the inside of one of the caves.
On the way back, they stopped at Whataburger for dinner and met up with a biking group. One of the bikers said he had made Eagle Scout when he was in Scouts and he was still able to recite the Scout Pledge/Oath. They had their pictures taken together and the bikers let the boys sit on their bikes for pictures.
Liking the bike!

End of the Year Cub Scout Picnic

The End of the year picnic for Jarin's Cub Scout Pack was held at a local park. Mike arranged for Life Flight to come and show their helicopter to the boys. Unfortunately Mike and Justin were camping that weekend out of town, but I was able to go and enjoy the fun with Jarin. He officially became a Wolf Cub on June 1st!

Shuttle Day

Yet another end of the year activity at school! Shuttle Day! It was a fun day. I spent the morning inside the shuttle taking blood pressures and pulses. In the afternoon there was an assembly with singing, slide shows and several guest speakers. T'was a fun day for our Austin Astronauts!

5th Grade Talent Show act

The 5th graders did a great job this year with their Talent Show act. I helped on the committee to pull this act off. We decided on a 50's theme complete with an Elvis. The kids danced and sang to "Yakety Yak, We go Together, and Rock around the Clock". After several rehearsals, the kids pulled it off! Justin had a lead role as a boy in the first part.

Folding table

Justin made this camp table for his Carpentry Merit Badge for Scouts. There are no nails in it. It's made exclusively from dowels. It folds nicely as well.

Easter 2010

We had a great Easter. The kids dyed eggs. The bunny brought them baskets. We had a potluck after mtg. and the kids hunted eggs. A great day!!

Duck feeding-April 2010

On some nights we go back to our lake in the back of the subdivision and feed the ducks. This past week, we've gotten to feed 4 little babies as well!

Spring Break in San Antonio

We had a great time in San Antonio over Spring Break this year.

Still here

Would you believe it if I told you I'm still here in blogland? I just haven't posted for a while as we had one computer malfunction resulting in needing to pull pictures off to salvage it. We purchased another computer, however, I haven't yet uploaded many pictures to it either. Couple that with the fact that I am in the throws of teaching 5 classes (Junior Achievement) to two 1st grade and three 5th grade classes (plus helping with 5th grade graduation functions and a 5th grade talent show act), so I don't have much extra computer time these days. I'm looking forward to summer when (hopefully) I can get it all caught up. In the mean time, I'm enjoying everyone's blogs, so keep up the posts!
