Friday's exhaustion

I worked around our 4 trees here on Friday. This St. Augustine grass is great for the South as it's extremely heat tolerant. It's also extremely aggressive. It sends out runners and if you don't establish a boundary in the flower beds, you will not have flower beds the next year. I worked under the trees, but decided to leave the big beds to the landscapers. It involves a shovel, a rake and a lot of patience. Here's the work I did in anticipation of soon being able to plant flowers.
This is what it looked like before I started...no real boundary between flower beds and grass and it's very difficult to mow too without flinging dirt, mulch and destroying whatever flowers you plant.
Here's the after picture...a little more defined border
Close up
And this my friends is how you know you're probably going to need to see a chiropractor about your back soon! Those bags are only 1/2 full, but they're full of mostly clay and dirt mix from the digging. Very heavy and you can see where I drug them from! Ugh!!!

Up close and Personal

I saw this on several blogger friends of mine, and thought I'd add my two cents to it too. Now it's your turn. If you haven't answered them, I challenge you to do so!

1. MAYBE I SHOULD eat lunch instead of blogging.

2. I LOVE working outside and getting my hands dirty (love my family too).

3. PEOPLE WOULD SAY THAT I'M a bit too chatty at times.

4. I DON'T UNDERSTAND anything that pertains to auto repair or electricity.

5. WHEN I WAKE UP IN THE MORNING I need a few minutes to get my bearings before I get up and start my day.

6. I LOST my mind a long time ago. If anyone finds it, would you please let me know!

7. LIFE IS FULL OF ups and downs and twists and turns.

8. MY PAST IS just that...past.

9. I GET ANNOYED WHEN I'm late for an appointment and I've lost my car keys (yes, another thing I've lost a time or two).

10. PARTIES ARE a lot of fun.

11. I WISH I could make the weeds in my flower beds dissappear!

12. DOGS are better off in other people's yards than mine. I'm tired of chewed natural gas lines, filling up the holes under the fence and picking up piles in our yard--there's a reason we don't have a dog folks!

13. CATS are sweet creatures who are very loyal and cover their messes neatly.

14. TOMORROW I'll probably be going grocery shopping.

15. I HAVE A LOW TOLERANCE FOR unruly kids.

16. I'M TOTALLY TERRIFIED OF heights (unless of coarse it involves a ski lift...you can't hurt yourself falling into snow, right?)

17. I WONDER what we'll be doing in retirement.

18. NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I ran a marathon. I've done a 5K, but no marathon yet.

19. HIGH SCHOOL WAS wonderful. I enjoyed every minute of it!

20. WHEN I'M NERVOUS I deal with GI problems and have to head to the restroom. (sorry guys...just trying to keep it real here).

21. ONE TIME AT A FAMILY GATHERING my husband announced to the crowd that we had some news to share. After the room fell silent, he calmly said "I got a new pair of jeans yesterday."

22. TAKE MY ADVICE ABOUT staying away from the malls on Black Friday (unless you love crowds and long lines, that is).

23. MAKING MY BED usually gets done in the afternoon.

24. I'M ALMOST ALWAYS blogging-duh!!

25. I'M ADDICTED TO anything chocolate.

26. I WANT SOMEONE TO read this and put one on their blog.

There you are...go forth and answer the posts!:)

We invited our mtg. over for lunch on Sunday and Paul and Paula brought some great food too (thanks guys!)! We let the boys hunt eggs. Here they are having fun!

Houston Livestock and Rodeo-2008

We had a great weekend with Dave and Sheila E. Bryce and Dylan weren't feeling too well, so unfortunately they headed home early on Sunday morning. We had a great time. We stopped by to see Cathy T. and enjoyed a quick visit with her before we headed to the Livestock and Rodeo. We hope they come back soon! Here are the pictures from our day!

Cruzin' the beach...

The Seawall in Galveston on the Gulf of Mexico. The tide was in so we didn't get to see much of the beach.
61st Street. Everywhere you go in Galveston the streets are lined with these beautiful palm trees.
Houses on an inlet.

Schlitterbahn Galveston

We had a great day yesterday at Schlitterbahn Water Park in Galveston. Here's a few photos from our day...

Bovay Scout Camp

We had a fun weekend camping with Justin's Cub Scout Pack. Here's a link to the pichttp://www2.snapfish.com/share/p=750171205802730191/l=361755845/g=56852778/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALBtures...

Baby picture

I found this picture when I was going through some of my old baby pictures. I was surprised at the resemblence to my dear little cousin, Aeries (see Lane and Sylvia's link). I think she looks a lot like my great Aunt, Edna. I do think she's a bit cuter than I was too.:) Let me know what you think.

Our lemon tree made it through the winter!

Future Electrical Engineer

Justin got this toy gadget and has had fun with it today. It's got all kinds of wires and connections and he's figured out how to make a burglar alarm and a telegraph.

Nerd Day

And who is this nerd? Justin had "Nerd Day" at school. He came home on Wednesday with a note saying that Friday was "Nerd Day", so to wear Nerd clothes. The first thing he asked me was "what's a nerd?"...how do you describe that one? So, we fixed him up as best as we could. In place of a "pocket protector" we used a ziploc baggie. We rolled up the pants and added pens to the pocket. The glasses were actually an old pair of Mike's that we took the lens out of and taped the nose (yes, my husband might have been in style back then, but he'd be a nerd if he wore them now).:) Justin remarked on the way to school that he thinks he looks more like Harry Potter than a nerd. I had to agree with him. Add a cape and wand and you've got it! But then again, wasn't Harry Potter sort of a nerd?

Lamp

This is the latest addition to our living room. Our old torch lamp was almost 20 years old and was a fire hazard, so we invested in this one.

Can you say "Ac-hoo!"

I took this picture of our patio table yesterday. That yellow stuff on it? Pollen! Kind of makes you want to sneeze now, doesn't it?

Guest bedroom

Remember this? It's our guest room that was getting a makeover?...
This is where we're at now...Still in need of headboards and sconce lamps (then the other lamp will go), but we're getting there!
I made the scarf valance (please don't look too closely), and the rod is another cast iron that should last us a while! This picture makes the wall look blue, but I assure you, it's off white! It's just that with the curtains drawn, it changed color. I tried to take it with them open, but I kept getting a glare. You get the idea anyway. Come and see us!

More Decor

Little by little, we're getting this house together. This is the dining room. I ordered these curtains online and bought the rod for them. It's very heavy cast iron, so it should last a while. The curtains are kind of hard to view with the blinds open, but they're espresso brown dupioni silk.

A closer view of the top and rod
And the mirror is up! It's kind of hard to do a picture with the stencilling on the walls.

Our boys

I just snapped this picture yesterday before spec. mtg. I just got them these matching spring sweaters and dress pants. We had Marcus B. for dinner and the night and enjoyed his company. He was off this morning to San Antonio.
